A state-of-the-art luxury liner at the time, and a grand showcase for French cuisine and wine, art, fashion and culture, the France only made a few cruises each year and only in winter. As a national symbol, during the remainder of the year she raced between New York and France at great cost to the French treasury. Sold in 1979 to Norwegian Caribbean Line, for conversion to cruise ship Norway.
