Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA) began flights from Toronto to Tampa in 1950 with Lockheed Constellation aircraft. In 1960, the larger Vickers Vanguard prop-jet was introduced and as well, a DC-8-43 flew the first jet service of Canada's national flag carrier from Montreal to Toronto and on to Vancouver.
In 1962, Trans-Canada Air Lines replaced their Vickers Vanguards on the Toronto - Tampa route with Douglas DC-8-40 jet aircraft. The Vanguards continued on peak season Montreal - Tampa weekend service. TCA was renamed "Air Canada" in 1965, allowing the same name to be used in both English and French.
