Oranje won high praise when built as a fast flagship for the East Indies colonial trade, with noteworthy service by its Singaporean/Chinese stewards. In 1950, the liner was shifted to a westbound around-the-world service with some cruising. In 1959 it was part of a coordinated "three-liner plan" with fleetmate Johan van Oldenbarnevelt and Royal Rotterdam Lloyd's Willem Ruys. The route was given up in 1964, and Oranje was sold for further trading as the immigrant liner and later cruise ship Angelina Lauro, lasting until 1979.
