Canberra of P&O-Orient Line built 1961

The largest ship built for a service other than the North Atlantic, it was always a special sight to see Canberra the stately liner maneuver at Pier 3. P&O-Orient felt that, along with the new Oriana (which began calling at Port Everglades in 1964), this ship would enhance the firm's traditional line voyage business, and allow expansion into the Pacific and into cruising. Canberra called several times annually at Port Everglades until 1973, when it became a full-time cruise ship and only an occasional visitor.
