Early Jetliners to Florida

Avianca Colombian Airlines In 1946, AVIANCA (Aerovias del Continente Americano), began flights from Colombia to Quito, Lima, Panama City, Miami, New York City and Europe, using Douglas DC-4 piston engine aircraft. In 1951, AVIANCA added the larger Lockheed 749 Constellations and 1049 Super Constellations. The Colombian flag carrier began jet service in 1961, when two Boeing 707 aircraft were leased to operate the international routes including a weekly nonstop from Miami to Bogota. Later in the year they acquired their own Boeing 720-B jets.

Avianca Colombian Airlines As of January 1963, AVIANCA was operating two weekly Miami - Bogota flights on the Boeing 720-B's, one originating from New York. Super Constellations operated three weekly nonstop Miami - Barranquilla flights with continuing service to Medellin and Bogota.
