Early Jetliners to Florida

Eastern Air Lines dominated Florida jet travel and Pan Am was America's international airline that everyone knew. Both had large bases in Miami. National was Florida's own airline, with its headquarters at Miami International Airport.

Also present were Delta, Northeast, Northwest, Capital/United, TWA and Braniff, joined by Trans-Canada from Toronto, Cunard Eagle from London and five Latin American carriers. By 1963, this first generation of jetliners was serving Florida with up to 115 daily flights each way on 16 airlines.
